3d dino rkt disaster!

i made a 3d long neck dino for my little cousins birthday..i used pvc covered in rkt for the legs, neck and tail then covered in crusting bc..the first batch i used butter, wouldnt set up..looked on here found others with this prob so i omitted butter and less cereal like suggested in the forum..well this worked..so it seemed..until about 20 min b4 the party things started to come apart..i improvised and tied it together with black string and "ninja dino"ed it ha. well an hour into the party slowly but surely it completely came off...did i do something wrong? also it was VERY humid in the house..it was probably 80 in the house with the windows open..no air on..my cousin still loved it and everyone raved how cute it was and were go great about it coming apart thank goodness but i was mortified!!

i have little experience with cakes but love doing it..i just got a in a little over my head (my own fault i got this grand pic in my head and jumped in icon_smile.gif ) ill try to post a pic bc to give you a better idea of it..it was so cute b4 it went to hell..at least it was still tasty!

It's apparently hard to get RKTs to stick to PVC pipes. You have to do something kind of extreme like stick it on with melted chocolate or candy melts and apply a whole lot of pressure so that the RKTs will be really dense. I only know this because I've seen it on one of those cake shows, and that's what they did to solve the problem, which, lucky for them, came up WAY before they had to deliver the cake. I'm sure the humidity didn't help any, either. I'm sorry your cake fell apart - he was a cute little critter, but people are no fools: they knew a good cake when they saw one and very intelligently gobbled it up anyway! This has happened to me before, btw, and it's no fun, but most of life's most valuable lessons aren't, are they? Oh, well, I'm glad everyone was so nice about it, and I hope this doesn't happen to you again!

You might also try smearing royal icing all over the pvc, then putting on the rkt (use plenty of pressure to adhere!) then coat the outside of the rkt in royal icing to "seal" and let it harden thoroughly. This should keep everything intact. HTH!

3. Mix the two together till just combined.
4. Set in fridge wrapped in saran wrap till set.

I don't wait over night for it to set. It is ready pretty quickly.

I just made some rice krispies treats and I live in a humid enviroment as well. I just add some melted chocolate to the mix, makes it set up stronger (use dark chocolate). Mold when just warm and moldable and leave to set
