I'm looking to purchase a printer so that I can make my own edible images, I'd prefer an Canon and after doing some research on Ink/Printer Prices I think I want to go with the following: Canon PIXMA MP610 Color Ink-jet - Printer / copier / scanner

Has anyone used this printer for that reason or can you suggest something that might work better or be more cost efficient?

TFL any and all help is much appreciated.

I want one too. I am wondering how long the ink lasts. How many images can you get from a set of ink cartridges? Is it comparable to other printing?

I'm on my second edible image printer - both Cannons. Currently I have an MP530. It's a printer and scanner. It's cheaper to pick up a printer locally then order the cartridges. My friend has an Epson and it's down more than it works. I definitely like the Cannons better.

How long the ink last depends on how much color is in the prints you do and the size of the prints. Canon printers have a print head that can be cleaned when it clogs and the epsons don't. I highly recommend icingimages for ink and frosting sheets. I've used kopykake products and icingimages is superior. Icingimages can tell you which printers they carry cartridges for. They also carry refill inks.

Thank you for the info, I found a site that carries the KopyKake products but I've never heard of Icingimages...I'll give them a google and see what I find. I wanted the Canon for compatibility with my digital camera and I love their products in general. This has been very helpful....thank you very much

I decided to go with the Canon MP560 because it is wireless and has basically the same functions as the others and I found a good price for a brand new on on Amazon

I got my Canon MP%^) from amazon and it's an awsome machine. I use the gold label inks from icingimages and the colors are much nicer then kopykake.

I have used Epson, and Canon, I have used both ink brands, I even used edible icing sheets and wafer paper. All in all, I love edible imaging, it leaves so many choices and can be a fantastic addition to your baking spectrum. In my opinion Canon did better than Epson, the ink was kind of the same to me, as far as how long it lasted always depended on the project, but I will say it last way less than a typical printer and can be costly. The papers were over all the same, but icing sheets have a smoother look and finish so I would recommend those. I am personally saving up (yes it's gonna take a long time!) for a printer/scanner in one made by a company that specializes in this exact area EDIBLE IMAGES! I say this because I have gone thru so many printer/scanners already, they either give me a heck of a time installing ink that isn't made by their company...well of course not it's edible! and clogging can be a nasty issue...edible ink is very different then the ink made for typical printing. There are head cleaners, and such to help with clogging and such but sooner or later the printer says I AM DONE! And that stinks. Hope that helps, and it's just my personal experience, best of luck, and have fun that's the best part of it!
