Hi everyone! I'm making a cake for my sister who is coming home from England this Saturday after being gone three months for schooling.

The theme of my cake requires a corset tier as the top tier. It's going to be a verrry small cake. Only 4" (maybe 6", haven't decided yet) cake rounds for the two tiered cake. I'm going to "carve" out my corset design which will make the top tier a little smaller than the bottom. The problem with this is that I've never done a corset design before and I'm sooo stressing out about it. I want this to look really good and I'm afraid of failure in a sense. =[

Soooo...I'd LOVE advice from all you very experienced and talented cake artist and maybe a little encouragement as well. =]

Side note: The cake will be marble with ganache filling. Also, I'm not including the shoulders or bust area in the corset design. I just want the curvature of the 'waist' (hope that makes sense.) Here are 2 photos I found that kinda describe what I'm going for.

Thanks!

I don't have specific tips for this design since i've never done it, but I would suggest you go with the 6 inch cake instead of the 4 inch cake to carve the curvature. The reason for this is that in general the smaller the cake, the harder it is to work on.

What exactly are you worried about? Is it that you've never carved a cake before? Are you worried about the carving or the decorating? Elaborating on exactly what type of advice you need might help others understand how to answer your post.

Good luck!

I did a ballet tutu as well (in my pics) and I was a little nervous. It turned out to be not so bad! I made the middle tier one cake pan size smaller. Tiers were 2 6" a 5" and then another 6" It made carving it a bit easier to me, as it would be even all the way around where it went in. Does that make sense? lol

Kello, Yes that makes sense =] Thanks.

Honestly, I'm nervous about everything. The carving I'm a little nervous about but it's the decorating that I'm super nervous about. I guess I'm not sure how to exactly get the lacing right (I'm using fondant). I don't want it to look sloppy is my thing. I want clean lines but it has to look kinda crazy at the same time. Ugh!

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PICTURE. THIS IS MY SISTER'S FAVORITE MUSIC ARTIST. THIS IS WHAT THE CAKE IS BASED ON. Crazzzy!

I would look up wedding dresses that have the corset look and get some of your inspiration from them.

This is what I mean.

I can't offer any advice, but Emilie Autumn was just here and my girls love her!

Vonda, That's really cool! My sister wants to see her in concert. I honestly can't stand her music, but that's just a personal preference lol. I think she is very unique and that is something I really like about her. =]

dldbrou, I do have some pictures in mind as references. Thanks =]
