I'm wondering how far in advance I can make fondant/gumpaste decorations for a cake?? I usually try to make and use my decorations within a couple of days, but am curious if I have a larger project how far in advance I can work on the decorations. I actually have several dozen Cancer awareness cupcakes coming up at the end of the month that I would like to start working on the toppings for.

TY in advance!!

Pretty much, you can make them as far ahead of time as you want! They last darn near forever. Just keep them covered so they don't collect dust!

I have made my decorations up to two weeks in advance. Not sure how much further out you could strech it...I haven't been brave enough to try it longer than that yet. Good luck!

As long as they don't have to conform to the shape of the cake, you can make them way far in advance. Gum paste lasts forever. Colors can fade so be sure to keep them in a dark space, covered of course.

I had one little baby figure I did early last year sitting up in my kitchen window til just about a month ago. The figure was still intact but had lost all it's color!! lol And I have people ask me (parents of children's cakes) that their child wants to keep a special part of their cake but wondering how long and how and I'm not sure what to tell them either.
