I am decorating a buttercream wedding cake this weekend with fresh flowers. I have never done this and am looking for some direction so I don't mess the whole thing up! Thank you all for any help/advice you have!

My only advice would be to use flower picks (ie don't go sticking stems straight into the cake), use flowers that are sturdier (eg. roses) and won't wilt in the first 30 minutes (some flowers do not survive well out of water at all), and make sure the flowers you use are not poisonous (I'd suggest doing your own research on this - some florists have no idea what's toxic and what's not)

As far as arranging them on the cake so they look good, I'm not the person to ask - I'm completely hopeless at flower arranging!

All the wedding cakes I've ever made were decorated with fresh flowers. I always used a mix of the brides flowers plus ferns and baby's breath.

Cut each flower so the stem is only 2 or 3 inches and tuck them under the cake plates. If you must stick a flower into a cake, use the florist pick. Most flowers will stay fresh for a few hours without being in water.
