Thinking About Opening A Cake Supply Shop

I don't even know where to start! I just know there isn't one in my area and I believe there's a need for one. I'm concerned that I don't even know what I don't know. Does that make sense?
Have any of you done this and care to give advice or point me in the right direction? I guess since I'm asking, would your advice be to just walk away? I'm ok with that, too.

It depends on where you are located and how far it is to another supply store. I have to drive about 60 miles to the nearest store other than Hobby Lobby. I would love to have one closer. The lady that owns the one that I go to does cakes and sugar art. So, she knows what she is selling.
I've been thinking the same thing recently. I know you posted this quite a while back. I would be interested in knowing what you decided. What did you learn that helped make your decision?
AI also had the same thought, I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago and my two options are at least an hour away. But when I was researching why there aren't any more, I realized that there used to be plenty and they all went out of business because people order the majority of their supplies online, both out of convenience and cost saving. And I know that I am the same, I'd visit a nearby supply if there was one for the odd thing here and there, but unless it was cheaper than online it would only be in emergencies.
LOTS of inventory to buy before you open the door...because people are going to want to come in and buy, not to make a second trip for special ordered stuff. Got a quarter million $$$?
