I was very excited to see Satin Ice here on the shelves today when I picked up my order! In fact the whole shop has been re-arranged with Satin Ice in all different colours and sizes. Actually I had a hard time finding my 7kg box of trusty Bakels.
Cant wait to try it out! icon_smile.gif

Let us know what you think of it. I've heard a lot of comments about it being very soft, drying out very quickly, and prone to lots of little air bubbles. (But then others rave over it, so you never know who to believe!...)

I actually bought some the other day , a wee bit expensive but , I used it to colour my bakels , I used such a small amount of it to get a lovely tiffany blue. I am going to vacuum seal it the rest of it. It mixed well with the bakels and I could get the bakels a lot thinner than I usually could without the bakels tearing on the corners.

Re Satin Ice - the only problem i found with it was - it was ever so soft to work with.
I was given 4 packets to trial - and each one was softer than what i was used to...

As Chellescakes said - if mixed with Bakels it becomes a better medium.

I have never used it - but had a lol at your description.

I use alot of Bakels and Regalice.
If i want a deeper colour or shade - i always use powdered colours as i find they don't make the medium too soft.
I am eagerly awaitng Winter - as the last 5 and a bit months without rain and extremely high humidity have been less than perfect for caking.
Today is another 34+C day
Lolll - much cooler than last week - think we are into our 50th something day of over 32C
Want to send some of your rain over to the West icon_biggrin.gif

we have had months of rain ,I am sooooo sick of it, it is supposed to rain all week here again, I have had to dry all my flowers in a box with a closet camel. I got some free samples of hanging damp rid packets from the coles delivery guy a while back , I could have kissed him .

Bottle the rain up and send it over - our Resivours are only 27% full - very bad state of affairs over here in the West icon_sad.gif

a friend of mine does often, but I find it a bit expensive , She likes the taste of it and it is less prone to crazing. I don't often make cakes for us to eat , and I don't like icing anyway so I can't justify the extra expense.

you are welcome to the rain , I remember when our dams were that low, they are now overflowing. Yep I am glad to be caking too. I actually took up caking cause I got sick so I had something to keep me occupied , who knew then where it would lead . icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Everyone, an update on Satin Ice! I really like it! I am actually very happy. As the name suggests, its Satiny, silky, smooth. The only downside I found is that it seems to be a bit prone to air bubbles, I very rarely got air bubbles with Bakels. I also bought the red, which I am in the process of using on a fire engine, it is very firm and doesnt need any white mixed into like the cake art I would usually use. I will post some decent pics next week!

Jessyummycakes, that's awesome to hear...Is there a big price difference between the Satin Ice and Bakels?
