Ok, so I'm making a banana cake & wondered what would be best. I have some leftover cream cheese filling or should I make almond or vanilla buttercream? Also have strawberries I could slice up & put in. Just no chocolate, taking it to my in laws get together & she's already made alot of chocolate sweets. Opinions? Tia

When I did a Groom's Cake that was banana, I did cream cheese. It was a copycat one of Sara Lee's and it went before the wedding cake! I did a full sheet cake and decorated with the frosting also.

You may think it's overkill, but how about a banana cream filling? Last summer I made a banana cake with a filling of whipped cream with a little banana pudding added to it. Not a lot, just enough for a subtle banana flavor. But it needs to stay refridgerated. I was just asked to make another one because they liked it so much. I also made a coconut cake with coconut filling for another tier and they couldn't decide which one they liked better.

I make a banana cake with a german chocolate type topping, carmel with coconut in it, this could be used as a filling instead, tastes great together.

Yum! This would be my choice too. Then frosted with cream cheese frosting. And because I like everything over the top, a salted caramel sauce on the side. Droool
