I need matcha to make green tea cupcakes. Does anyone know where I can some? I've never bought it before, is it a brand of green tea or just a type of green tea? I need to know what I'm looking for. Thank you!

I purchased mine at Whole Foods, in Washington. Any type of organic food store should carry it. Make sure you get the powder and not the tea and be prepared it's expensive. To save time I'd call the stores first to make sure they have it. Good luck.

I think its green tea ground into a fine powder. I searched on Google and Amazon.com and got a few of these sites as results. Hope that helps you out and good luck!

DanaG21, thank you for mentioning that! As a newbie baker I used chai tea leaves in a cake I was making... it smelled great, but was the most horrid bitter tasting thing ever! We ended up chucking it in the trash. I wouldn't want anyone else to have that happen to themicon_razz.gif

I bought green tea leaves and ground and sifted them myself. I used a green tea that I use for cups of tea.

there's an idea, can you share specific directions on how to grind and sift them? I don't know anything about tea.

I found a recipe on this site for green tea petite fours, I was going to give them a try as cupcakes.
