Hi everyone!!

I am a rookie at pricing cakes... been doing them since I was a teen when grandma taught me. However I do maybe 4 a year. I recently had someone ask how much I charge for a cake. I have no clue!!!! I usually just did them for free for family and friends. I quoted $20.00 for a 1/4 sheet cake. That's what they sell for in the stores. I was told that I'm charging way to little for them but I feel guilty charging $30.00 for a 1/4 sheet cake when it takes little time to make. Yes I make everything from scratch but baking is my passion. I want to start making money and get over my fear icon_biggrin.gif My question is how do you price cakes?

Thank you in advance.

The way i do it is, add up ALL the cost that comes out of my pocket, ingredients for all cake, icing, fondant, support, board, ribbon ect. and some include pans and oven fees (i dont). then I estimate how many hours it takes me to make that cake and set a wage (5-10$ an hour). that is the quote i give. so that way it will include difficulty as well. hope that helps. Be forewarned, many will tell you that you are not aloud to sell cakes that you are making in your home kitchen without being legal with a business license and health inspection ect. which is true. check your state, some allow it some dont. and maybe you have already done that icon_smile.gif Good Luck!

Check this thread. Many people have posted what they charged for a cake along with the sizes etc. That will also give you an idea. HTH
