Hi

I have been asked to make a 3D football cake, has anyone ever made one? If so which tin did you use? I have found 2 but one looks more like a 2D tin not a 3D tin

Thanks Sarah

I have never made a football cake but I have made a death star! lol I know, not even close to being the same!
Wilton use to, if they don't now, have a football pan, which is 3D.
A tip if I can suggest it, when you put it together make a base that caresses the ball. This will give it the support it needs to travel.
Some ideas, a hand made of modeling chocolate holding the ball, a trophy stand, the kicking stand tripod (that may be a whole lot more difficult!). Good luck and show us the pictures when you are finished!

I have made a 2D football cake a few times. I used the Wilton Egg shaped pan and just carved the one end to look more like a football cake. It was really cute when I was finished. To make a 3D cake I would think you could just make two of the 2D footballs and attach them in the enter with icing.

I used the Wilton Football pan. 'glued' them together with icing and shaped it a little better. I need it on the smaller side since it was only going to be for 5 people. Here is mine: http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1937839

Instead of purchasing the 3D Wilton cake pan, I thought of a simple way to make a 3D Football cake mould:
1. Buy good quality aluminumn foil
2. Buy a nerf sized football at the dollar store
3. Use lots of tin foil and mould half the football
4. Remove the football from the foil
Voila!! A football shaped tin foil mould for baking half the football and then when done, bake the other half.
5. If you need to use long wooden skewers to make sure the two halves stay together then do so...just let everyone eating the cake know that they are in there!
*Place the football foil mould into a loaf pan for more support during baking*
