I was wanting to make a LV bag/purse and I have seen that people are making them with edible images. I am capable of producing the images myself but I'm just wondering if I should put the image on the fondant after placing the fondant on the cake??? I'm guessing that's how it's done. Any tips?

Also, I've seen some great purse cakes with very realistic buckles, loops, etc. Any tips on how to make them?

Thanks all! icon_smile.gif

I kinda think I have an idea but not completely sure. And I was thinking/wondering do I have to put it on brown/chocolate fondant or does it even matter since it's a frosting sheet on fondant???

DYING to make it.... and dying to make it right first time round! icon_wink.gif

I have done this kind of cake several times. you first have to cover the cake in fondant as usual. after it is cover you can now put the edible image. I put it in the fridge so it is easier to peel it off the sheet. i put some water on the cake and then i place the image from the border of itself and then carefully with my hand i place the rest of the image on the cake, avoiding air bubbles. I you place it in the fridge before using it, you can cut it and peel it off easily

I was wondering the same thing about an LV purse. I do have one more question though. If you make a LV purse with brown fondant is there anyway you can get an edible image sheet that will match the fondant's color, or are edible image sheets always white?

So does it matter what color of fondant I use? Should I use brown fondant? Thanks icon_smile.gif

this is my experience with edible images:

every time I print this brown logo on a sheet, turned a little greenish

http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1786081

Last time i did a LV purse the customer wasnt soo happy about the greenish color, but the cake itself looked good anyway.

Last time I went to my local cake store, I found out they carry edible images made out of chocolate, so they are brown and supposedly tastier, I dont really know that, so i think it will be good to give it a try, i suggest to find the background, with the logo, in white, because you actually will like to print only the logo part not the background color (brown) do i make my self clear? , i dont know if you can visualize it, then if you need to re-paint the LV part in gold, just do it with paint brush as usual.

Yeah, it definitely turned green. Looks great though. So what color was the fondant you used? Did you use brown fondant underneath the edible image or white? I wonder if that had anything to do with it turning greensih??

I think I have determined I will just need to roll out a piece of fondant in brown & white (just on my counter not on a cake) and place the edible images on both & see which looks better. Trial & error... hopefully there won't be much error, lol icon_wink.gif

it doesn't have to do with the fondant, you can use any fondant color. The edible image is thick enough so you wont look through it. It is the color when you print, it is the edible color, how it got mixed when you print. Some colors look better than others. i dont know if this is only that happens to me or if any one else has experience the same. That is why i suggest to use the brown chocolate edible sheets so it is already brown. HTH

You know I printed mine off today & it turned green on me too! It looks ok if you want a green LV cake, but I want to be able to do it brown. I wonder if I should ask the icing images people, what the scoop is on the color issue??? Does anyone know how to print it so it doesn't turn green???

my local cake store has them. But I haven't try to do it yet. I don't know how good it will turn out. I think the best way i would do it, is to find a LV back ground that only print the logo part and leaves the brown as it. I have no a good idea!!! but we should call the ink producers and ask them about the color, and why is it turning greenish??

I'm going to take the link to this thread & post it under the icing images topic/threads. Maybe they will have some light to shed on our green issue! Crossing fingers!

Here's the link for the thread I started on icing images forum, they are looking into it and said it only happens with a certain shade of brown...
