Whoever posted the tip about saran wrap was spot on! I rolled my fondant out thing, overlayed the plastic wrap and then pressed over that. Nothing to clean and no actual tapping! Thank you so much to who originally posted that tip. I can remember who it was but it is a fantastic tip.
I can't wait to try that! IT took me an hour to cut out my letters for a cake last month!
I need to do that, I never use my funky tappits because I can't get them to work any other way.
I actually thought I got the hang of Tappits only to have the next 5 letters be a problem for me. Tappits are a tease! Do you get a clean edge though? Some of those letters have such a thin edge? Will try it though. Wondering if you have to also get the very thin plastic wrap and not a heavy one.
I did get a clean edge. I didn't at first but then I added a generous dose gum-tex to the homemade MMF because it was a bit soft. I also used Duff's at the same time and it was working straight out of the tub. I cut the letters all at once, then removed the outer all together. Let them sit for 5 minutes and applied. I am in disbelief but it really worked fantastically.
Wha?!?! I'm so excited! Let me get this right....Roll out fondant, cover with layer of Seran/Plastic Wrap, then use the tapit? The plastic doesnt bunch or affect the shapes?
Mfattore, So glad it worked for you. I can't claim credit for the brilliant idea. Someone else posted it here on cc and I too worried it would bunch or crease but it worked great. So well actually, that I just bought another set of tappits in a different font
No real clean-up needed on the tappits either! Thank you Sillywabbitz and whomever else has posted this. I was so scared I would hate my Tappits but last night was my first time and voila! perfect!
I have to remember that! I have tappits in 3 fonts, and I never use them, I am always running late and I never have time to try to pick my letters out with a pin, only to have them stretch and tear...My piping is getting better though, lol!
I use Tappits all the time with no problem at all.
I only use flowerpaste to make them with as I have found this to be the only medium to work with them.
Roll out the flowerpaste nice and thin. With Trex or any white fat put a small amount on finger and rub over the letter.
Press and cut out. Works every time.
Hope this helps
Cake_Karen is right they work great with a gumpaste recipes. Ednas recipe works great (designmeacake.com) I usually use some corn starch but will try the shortening as suggested.
