There is a cake supply store here in town that sells their apron, they are a very nice material. Very thin and easy to move around in, but very stain resistant. They are not vinyl, nor 100% cotton. Kind of slick, I don't know how to describe them. Anyway, their logo is on them, and I'd like mine, lol, so do any of you use an apron and is it something like this material? If so, where did you buy yours? TIA!
I've been thinking about making a 50's housewife apron for myself, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I wear one that you pull over your head and it ties on the side, but I so would like to have the "50's housewife" type of apron. I just love that stuff.
I wear an apron. It feels funny if I don't when I am baking. I like the 1950's style. They sell them at Pier 1.
For deliveries, we wear hot pink or lime green dotted ruffle aprons. They are hard to miss and draw attention to our business and the cake delivery in public places. Plus they are extra cute.
OP- sounds like material that has a polyester or rayon blend...my collection of aprons are somewhat similar with that "slick" sort of feel....they are all over 10 years old at the least, and colors wash right out of them but after all this time, they do have oil spots... and I promise I'm really not a thief, but, they were all from my grocery store days and were from Cintas Uniform. They are a pretty big company so I'm sure you could look them up online and order stuff. HTH
I wore a black apron once, DONT GO THERE, all i could see on the lovely was white sugarpste was black fibre, I should use a bin liner around me when sugarpasting, I get in such a mess,
I love the idea of the 50's style apron! i wear a white cotton one, which has a little tetley tea man on the bottom corner.
I'd love to have a personalised one with my Sweet Mama D's logo on it one day!
I found this apron online - http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/pinnikity/product/eloise-women-s-pleated-apron
Is this the 50's style one you gal's were talking about?
They have loads of gorgeous one's, I especially like this one - http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/hettyb/product/flower-cake-stand-apron
Now you've all given me food for thought! I love this kind of thing!

scp1127, sorry, I'm having trouble using the quote function! Not quite sure how that works!

I do wear an apron, but I tend to get messy and go through at least 2 a day. So, I go with just plain cotton with big pockets and lots of them!!!
All the time!!! I LOVE aprons. I'm sure I inherited it from my grandmother.
I can still see her in her kitchen, always with an apron on. When she passed they were all thrown into a bag destined for charity or God forbid, the trash heap. I snatched up my new found treasures as quick as I could and they have been a source of love and comfort to me ever since!
I wear an apron most of the time in the kitchen, I have one that's pink which I only wear when I'm caking, so my family knows if I have the pink one on, that I'm busy and they should stay out of the kitchen
It works pretty well for my small children to know that mommy's busy, not as much for the husband though, haha
I wear an apron all the time - cooking or cleaning. I have 6-7. It is 2nd nature for me to put one on when I get home from work.
I use aprons by the smart baker there is a conversion chart on the bottom of the apron and they do custom aprons s as well, The owner of our local candy store told me about them, great product. http://www.thesmartbaker.com/index.php
I wear an apron...cotton. I have intended to make one for some time but there is always some other thing I need to do......Our kids help in the kitchen and they have one too...it says 'kiss the cook' and they enjuoy making sure everyone in the house kisses them!
I have some cute aprons, but I really have to wear the kind that offer lots of coverage! I've ruined so many shirts with spatters of butter, chocolate, or rv cake batter. However, in the summer I find aprons to be too hot, so I wear my "previously stained" t-shirts and capris. I'm a very messy baker.
I NEVER wear an aprone lol I really cant move when im wearing it I do wear a hair net though
My mother and grandmother customized an apron for me and gave it to me as a xmas gift. They took regular (fun colored) dish towels and made removable panels that clip on and off the bottom part of the apron so I can switch them up as they get dirty. Added bonus: They're super easy to toss in the wash! They even added fun themed borders for each occasion- xmas, halloween, summer, etc.
I always wer an apron when I am in the kitchen. I have about 5 of them and they are from William-Sonoma. They come in different colors are easy to wash and are made of a cotton twill. I do not have a problem with lint on fondant. They are great.
I am in love with this these! I would be afraid to work in them, though, they are way too pretty to get dirty. I especially LOVE the pearl necklaces!

I have a growing collection of aprons.
I have two "standard" twill aprons, 2 frilly "50s housewife" aprons, and a novelty one w/a stereotypical 60's wife w/the big Jackie Kennedy bouffant. It says "I am only as strong as the coffee I drink and the hairspray I use" That one matches my coffee travel mug that says "Make yourself at home, Clean my kitchen."

Those are really cute. If you like pretty aprons but want something a little "edgier" Check out Cupcake Provocateur WARNING--some of the pics are a little risque, pin-up girl naughty not x-rated.

If you have basic sewing skills, I've seen kits for the frilly 50's style aprons at both Joann Fabrics and the craft section at Walmart. The Walmart near me no longer has fabric but they do have the kits.

I'm going to be making my own out of some cupcake material that I bought.
I made an apron for my favorite cousin a couple years ago using some ADORABLE cupcake fabric. It turned out really cute, and I was able to make a little sun dress for my baby girl with the leftover fabric.
There is a CC member who makes and sells retro aprons, but I haven't seen her on in a while and I can't remember her name.
The ones I use for delivery are on amazon by Kay Dee Designs. The length is to your upper thigh. The girls draw so much attention in them and they are only bout $20.00 when you add shipping.
