So, I'm doing a 4 tiered stacked fondant cake. round 12, 10, 8 and 6. So it'll be a heavy cake. I'm wondering if bubble straws alone will be enough to hold the cake.. I don't have SPS on me which is why I'm using bubble straws... Any tips or advice for this type of stacking? how long should i be making the straws? Til the just poke through the top of the cake? or smaller than that?

I've never stacked a cake that big/heavy before but I use bubble straws all the time for 2 and 3 tiers and they are pretty durable. Don't know what others with more experience would say about a cake that big. Are you travelling with it?

One thing I know for sure though, cut all of your straws exactly the same length for each tier. Otherwise the tier above won't sit level and you can have major problems. Just insert your first straw and make a mark level with the top of your cake. Slide it out and cut it at that mark. Then use that as the guide for the rest of the straws for that tier. Do that with each tier.

I used them for a 5 tier and had no problems. Cut like debbief said to make sure all the straws in each cake are level with each other. If you are transporting it all stacked use a center dowel to help it not move around too.

Make sure you use enough...I'd say probably 14 or so straws in your bottom tier and go up from there. But yep they'll be plenty of support.

where do you buy your bubble straws? I use the SPS system, but have been curious about this method and have thought about trying it out.
