Cake for 8000 people - that's what someone asked me for a quote for today! Actually, they wanted a quote for a cake that was 5m x 3m x 5cm high (16.4ft x 9.8ft). So, before calling them, I worked out that that would be 110 18x24" cakes, each serving 72 people, making a total of 7920 servings. Multiply by my per serving price and it would have meant I could have taken time off from now til about September icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, I asked the (clueless) client if they NEEDED 8000 servings of cake, and she said no... eventually they ordered 500 cupcakes plus tower rental instead icon_biggrin.gif

They go from 8000 to 500? Did they say why they wanted a cake that big?

So are they planning on cutting each cupcake into 16 pieces to get their original 8000 servings?

No, I think they just needed something to wow a crowd...guess they didn't really think it through properly icon_rolleyes.gif They now appear to plan on giving 500 cupcakes away to people in the street, some kind of publicity stunt for a client of theirs (they are a publicity agency).
Gotta find 500 clear individual cupcake boxes, and a stand for 500 cupcakes too.

A 9 0z. clear drink cup and lid will also work fine. Use the lid as the bottom and snap the cup on upside down.

Wow! Good thing you put the pencil to paper! Still 500 cupcakes isn't a bad gig either.

Here's a link to some clear cupcake containers I've found.

I like the clamshell style for a cupcake, it looks like it won't slide around.
Hth!

Too funny!

I had a similar on a smaller scale...lady wanted a life size replica of her daughter (2 years old) in cake.

Not only does that seem a little warped...but I asked her how many servings. She said about 25-30. I told her I didn't know about her toddler, but my toddler would probably feed at least 75 if he were made out of cake. haha.

She backtracked to a two tiered cake done in cartoon characters or something. HAHA. Especially when I told her I would charge about $12 a serving times at least 75 servings....yeah.

Very warped, indeed! I was cracking up when I read that second part! My toddler could probably feed at least 75-120, I haven't figured it up, (duh!) but he is a Hoss, he is 40lbs, and his 2nd birthday is in 2 weeks. There is NO WAY i would want to cut into a cake that looks like him! Now, my husband...maybe!
