Hi all - I'm new to cake decorating and I want to make up some dummy cakes. I have seen a few demos on You Tube etc and some people use water to stick their fondant to the dummy cake and some people use piping gel. Is one better than the other??? Thanks
I have never used piping gel but I recently did several dummy cakes and used water. It worked like a charm and I would recommend it.

I have made 5 dummy cakes in the past few cakes for a demonstration and have use successfully water. You are welcome to check some of my cakes if you wish. One of them is a Mardo Grass cake, communion, wedding (white), Tiffani cake qand bqby shower. Some of those cakes are big too. Good luck.

I actually use shortening. If you are just using it as practice if you use shortening and peel it off you can just re-kneed & re-use the fondant.
Thanks AmysCakesNCandies that's a good idea. I might try that to begin with until I get better at it.
