I've been making cakes for the past 2 years and I feel like I've been undercharging for them. It's been mostly for friends and family so I've felt in my mind it's a discount rate. I almost never see a profit from them. I feel like my work has gotten better so I could charge more in theory, right? I would like to make a living decorating cakes.
So does anyone have any ideas on this? I live in Manorville, NY and there aren't any local bakeries to call and ask what the charge. If anyone wants to check out my cakes they are welcome to. Thanks!

You "almost never" see a profit and you're asking if you could charge more "in theory"? icon_confused.gif

Darlin' you'll never "make a living" on cakes if you don't get over this kind of thinking ... and do it today! thumbs_up.gif

there are many, many MANY threads on here on pricing. I highly recommend that you get a big glass of iced tea, lock the kids out of the computer room and sit and just read, read, read every thread in the business forum that has anything to do with pricing.

Also if you click on my blog link (in my signature), I have a blog entry with a link to the best article on pricing, written by our own KelleyM, developer of the cake boss software system.
