Does anyone ever use the Wiltons Decorators Icing and add different flavors? First let me say that I'm just a mom who likes to experiment and yes, I realize this is the easy way out but its easiest for me
I use it most the time when I make birthday cakes or treats for school parties, and I actually used it last month when I made my son a red velvet cake for his birthday; I added cream cheese to make like a cream cheese frosting and I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted okay.
I was just curious if anyone used it for different flavors and if there were any tricks to changing it up.
I was also curious to know how different it was from the scratch buttercreams and other frosting I see posted. I've never tried to make scratch frosting. Thanks for your inputs!
Wilton's decorator icing that comes in the can, IMO is disgusting...I would use betty crocker or another canned icing before I would use that.
If you make buttercream from scratch, you will NEVER go back to buying the wilton stuff, lol. It's surprisingly easy and super cheap to make your own.
If you don't want to make your own, go to a local bakery and ask to buy some buttercream. The wilton stuff in the can has a really odd synthetic taste.
I didn't like it. But some do & some don't. Sam's club sells it by the bucket if you have one in your area. Or some local grocery store bakerys sell it too. I have seen it but never used it.
The only time I use it is when I'm teaching class. The taste is not good. And like I tell my students if you're gonna use it ... get the bucket & not the little can. The price of the cans adds up really fast. The can is a stiff consistency the bucket is medium. And just like everyone has already said...it less expensive to make your own. And yours will taste better. It's really not hard to make your own either
You are all correct--it COULD taste better You are all making me breakdown--I actually bought stuff to attempt to make my own buttercream. I have purchased a huge bucket of buttercream from Sam's once and I really like it, but most of the time, I don't need that much.
Thanks so much for the input
