Hi, I am going to try using fondant icing for the first time. My question is how far in advance can you prepare your fondant (bow, pearls, etc...). I am making the cake for a shower on Saturday and wanted to have the bow and pearls completed by Thursday night (after kids are in bed). I planned on completing the cake Friday night so it can be delivered first thing Saturday morning. Do I need to refridgerate the fondant pieces after construction to help keep their shape or can I just keep them sealed at room temperature??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think you're supposed to make them ahead so they have time to dry.

Don't put them in the fridge.

Buming to see if anyone else can help. I usually use gumpaste for stuff like that.

Don't refrigerate the fondant pieces. You can make the bow weeks in advance. I finished a bow last night for a cake for Sept 24th. Just keep it covered to keep the dust off. Don't seal it air tight unless you are absolutely sure they are completely dry. The moisture will melt it if you do.

Don't put your fondant in the refridgerator. It will begin "sweating" when you pull it out and your bows, etc. will droop horribly. Trust me... I had to learn the hard way. It's best if you keep it in a plastic ziploc bag after it has dried. Then leave the bag on the counter, but NO REFRIDGERATOR.
