I've not heard of the Wish Blade before, can you give any additional information?

I have a wishblade, Gazelle and Cricut Cake. I have never used the wishblade to cut gumpaste, fondant, etc., but it would probably work if you got the right blade. I think any of the cutters will work as long as you get the gumpaste/fondant thin enough AND you extend the blade long enough.

I am very pleased with the Cricut Cake. Never thought I'd say that because I never thought I'd get on the Cricut band wagon. The only reason I got it was because I got a deal when Michael's was closing them out. Prior to that I had been using my Gazelle, which worked fine, too. I just wanted something that was food safe and didn't want to gunk up my Gazelle.

I use a third-party software with the Cricut Cake so I can cut any designs I want. It's cut great and again, I've been very pleased.

Good luck with you decision.

Sorry for the multiple replies. I forgot to mention in my last post that I tried SugarVeil and had no luck with it. It was a disaster. I'm sure it works with practice, but I found it fairly expensive and gumpaste and fondant are readily available and easier to use IMO.

Emma:

There is definitely a learning curve to using any cutter--especially the computerized ones because you have to learn the software. The cricut is fairly easy to use because you don't have to use software and can just use their cartridges. That's nice for someone who's not technically savvy, but with software you can really maximize your ability to use the machine.

There's also a learning curve to cutting the gumpaste and fondant, but it's not really too difficult. The key is to get the gumpaste/fondant thin enough. With the cricut cake, the blade length is set, so you're good to go if you've got it thin enough. With the other computerized cutters, you also have to mess with the blade and make sure it's sticking out far enough. I've had an electronic die cutter for about 4 years now so that wasn't difficult for me to figure out, but it still took some work. For someone new to it, I'd think it would be a little harder. It just depends on you, your patience level and persistence! There are tons of yahoo groups that provide assistance on using these machines and they are very helpful.

Yeah, Sugarveil looked really easy to use on the video. Didn't turn out that way. Again, I'm sure it could be done, but I found it to be really, really sticky and I couldn't get it to spread out evenly. My friend who is a baker extraordinaire gave me her Sugarveil back and said she never wanted to try it again! I still have some sitting in my kitchen cabinet.

Good luck!

Debby

While we are on the subject of machine cutters, has anyone seen or used the"MINI" cricut cake? Joann's currently has them on sale. I was curious to the pro's and cons of, it between the regular cricut cake. The ad says the only difference is the room it takes up on the counter top. I am curious to ALL the pro's and cons and knew this would be the place to find out! lol

Hello as you can see you will get diferent opinions but you have to see what is best for you. I don't know were you live but Carrie Biggers from Carrie cakes she is in Utah and Becky & Martha from Sweet southern ladies they made 2 DVD's they teach you how to make the gumpaste and how to use the cricut cake machine. you should visit both pages so you can see beautiful cake designs using the cricut cake machine.
Carrie has pictures in her facebook page from a cricut cake class she had.
in my opinion is just practice, practice, practice
good luck thumbs_up.gif
