I am making my daughter a bday cake next month that will need black fondant. I am debating on trying to make the chocolate fondant and try to make it black or buy it all ready made. How easy is it to turn the chocolate fondant black and how well does it hold up? It will be for decorations on the cake so I will probably need to add tylose as well. TIA
I bought duffs black fondant at michaels for decos only. Love it. Ididn,t put any tylose in it. I didn,t want it to become hard. Taste very good also.
I make black from chocolate all the time. I just finished some this afternoon. Add the color into the fondant before you add the powdered sugar. It will take a lot less to make it black. I used about 3/4 of a teaspoon of black gel color to tint the whole batch black and it worked great.
What choc. fondant did you use to add the black to it? I use Duff's fondant also when I have the Micheal's coupon to use towards it..It always seemed the best and easy way,,but would'nt mind using black into homemade chocolate fondant to save $$.. I use MMF and Michele Foster's fondant,,would it work with those in choc flavored?
I have used the Satin Ice chocolate fondant and added the Americolor black to it and it worked well.
I always use the Black Satin Ice. It works great. I know others have had problems, but as long as you put a little shortening on your hands when you work it, it works just fine. It does stretch easy that way, so you have to be careful. Are you covering a large area?
