Transcript of a crazy customer call

Just got off the phone with a customer who ordered a small cake for this Saturday, the conversation went something like this.

Customer: Is my cake being delivered tonight?

Me: well, no it was ordered for Saturday I will deliver it on Saturday

Customer: Well I was hoping you could deliver it tonight

Me: I can't do that because the cake is not made yet, it will be ready for the Saturday delivery time on the order copy I sent to you.

Customer: Well I changed the date on the order form.

Me: Did you call or email me to ask if I could accomodate the change?

Customer: No

Me: Did you inform me that you needed a date change

Customer: well, i changed the date on the copy of the order you sent me and sent it back to you

Me: And what would make me check for a date change if you didnt contct me about it?

Customer: I dunno, can I get the cake tonight?

Me: No..... So do you still want the cake on Saturday?

Customer: OK

Seriously, just change the order and not tell me or ask if I can accomodate a change... Really? Must be a full moon.

Didn't something similar happen to Indydebi where she had to cater a function and showed up over an hour early only to be told that they had changed the dinner serving time and didn't bother to tell the caterer??? icon_confused.gif Yep, it's in the water I tell ya!! icon_biggrin.gif

yep, just last week i can an email abotu my "bum" cookies, I called her and she said she would like some for tuesday amd what the price was.

I told her $2 each wit ha minimum of 12. She said Ill call you tomorrow to confirm.

No phone call.

Tuesday, I get a call "so when can I pick up the cookies"

I said "you did not confirm the order, so there are no cookies made"

She says " but i said I wanted them"

I said " you also said you were going to confirm, when I got no phone call, I asumed you did not want them"

She says "Well what am I supposed to do now?"

Me" Sorry, I cant help you"

done

My loon was a bride who got a 'rough idea of what coffee serves would cost' from me on the phone, then at the consultation tried to tell me it was to be served as dessert, and 'so long as we keep to the quoted price you gave us..."

I felt like saying "Well, sure, so long as you're happy to have only half your guests actually eating dessert".

People are just no damn good. icon_razz.gif

So he wrote the change on the order form and then didn't send it to you? What? Good lord...

I once had a bride change her wedding date and not tell me. Must have slipped her mind. I showed up with the cake but they told me it was the next day, not that day. I guess she thought I'd figure it out when there was another cake there already.

According to the OP I believe the customer did send back the order form with the change on it

I get this all the time! I'll be having a casual conversation with someone and they mention they want a cake or cookies for whatever reason, I say, "great, give me a call to order them." And at least once a month a get this weird phone call or message from these people asking when they can pick up their cake! And everytime I question the fact that they didn't order, they always respond, "but we talked about it..."

To clarify:
She did change it on the form (I found it after scrounging through my email) but the form was just an attachment with no indication in the email of a change- so I had no reason to open the copy of the order I had sent to her. Since I had only sent it as a "customer copy" of an order, not as something that required a signature or approval. The body of her email simply stated... "I would like to pay via Paypal"

I really wanted to tell this lady that I am a baker not a psychic, but I bit my tounge.

MadameRaz....So are you saying that they changed the wedding date AND got another person to do the cake? Without telling you?

it was actually costumeczar who posted this...and i think she meant that the venue was probably having a diferent wedding on the date she had in her calendar, but the wedding she had made the cake for was going to be the following day...if that makes any sense...

Sheesh, you just HAD to bring this up tonight, didn't you??? icon_biggrin.gif I just got done telling a bride who has a wedding party of 200 and her budget is $200 icon_eek.gif that you can't even buy a happy meal for that and most decorators in the city START at $3.50/serving and go up. Needless to say, I got another shoot and run b**ch who sent me a scathing note telling me "$3 for a slice of cake is OUTRAGEOUS" and a Happy Meal is a COMPLETE meal, not a little slice of cake! yada yada yada... icon_rolleyes.gif

It's overcast here -- can someone look outside and tell me if it's a full moon tonight? icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif

I once had the moher of the groom, who came with the bride to order the cake, call the morning of the wedding to ask....Have you started the wedding cake yet?

That was me...Yes, it was a Saturday, and I was there to deliver the cake, but there was already another wedding cake there. I asked and they told me that my bride's wedding was the next day. I took out the contract and asked them to look at it to see if I was crazy or not, but yep, it was that day's date so I was there with a cake that had been ordered for the day before her wedding.

They didn't have anywhere to store my cake, so I took it home and returned with it the next day. I just can't believe that she didn't bother to tell me that they'd moved the date. Although after doing this for so long, I'm not surprised by much anymore.
