I am going to try fondant flowers. Do you have any tips on how to make this easier?

I would really like to use gum paste but it is more epxensive than mmf.

Do you think that gumpaste is easier to work with than mmf for flowers?

I have seen that fondant takes longer to dry. I live in a very humid state/FL. Any other comments would be appreciated.

TIA!

I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, just learning(and teaching myself) so take this with a grain of salt...

I have worked with both. On the double heart cake in my photos, the roses are all MMF. Not bad to work with as long as it is not humid. Definately let the centers dry overnight. It is much easier that way. Will you be using the Wilton cutters? On that cake I used the cutters from the Class III kit with all the petals connected.

On my Class III cake, I used gumpaste. You can roll out the petals much thinner on the ends and can kind of shape them since it starts setting to dry much quicker. DON'T make the mistake with gumpaste of saying O'well this one doesn't look right and pop it in your mouth!! YUCK!! It is like eating elmers glue!

How long will the flowers keep once made?

Will the flowers made of mmf soften if the temp is too humid once the flowers dried?

Gumpaste will last forever. MMF I'm not sure hope someone else will answer that. I can say that I have 2 MMF roses I tossed in a drawer just to see and they are fine. Its been since the first of July.

Hi mami2sweeties, I don't have experience with gumpaste, but I can tell you that is your going to use mmf, your going to want to add gum-tex to give it the stability to create the rose.

I would make the centers and let them dry for sure. You can use a candy cup to cradle your flower to stop it from drooping until it has time to dry. A candy cup is like a mini cupcake liner.
