I am in search for the perfect buttercream. I'm pretty new to cake decorating but I have tried a few different recipes and none of them are what I'm looking for. I would like a frosting that crusts, uses little or no crisco, and doesn't have to be refrigerated. I've tried an italian meringue recipe and while it was okay, it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I've also tried a recipe that used all butter instead of crisco but it tasted like pure powdered sugar. Anyone have a recipe that they absolutely love?

Indydebi's is the best for an american buttercream in my experience

I use mainly only Swiss Meringue Buttercream, its like fluffy not so sweet & super easy to smooth...

I have actually combined SMBC with indydebi's recipe at about a 70/30 ratio (70% indydebi 30% SMBC) I LOVE the way it tastes and the texture. It also crusts so it's still great for decorating. If you can take the time to make both recipes I think it's well worth it.

anxietyattack - what a great idea! I think ABC is too sweet and SMBC too buttery so the combination sounds like a great compromise - I can't wait to try it.

Love Sugarshacks buttercream. It has doesn't have to be refrigerated. It uses hi-ratio shortening which I buy online. It's delicious and crusts beautifully.
