Hi Would love some quick advice.

Just sat down with all my tools etc ready to start making my cake topper figure. Im adding tylo to fondant for the first time. Thought I could just knead it in and off I go but now not sure...

How long do I have to wait after kneading in the Tylo?

When do I add the colour, before or after Tylo?

AAHH! Thanks so much!

I add color before but it probably does not matter and just keep adding tylo until I get a good consistancy like gumpaste.

Thanks! Can I start work with the fondant straight away or do I need to wait for the tylo to work - and if so for how long??

I have done it both ways, if you wait it will be stiff more quickly as you are working with it, but if you can do it now while it is softer and then let it sit to harden - it really depends on what you are making which will work best for you.

I agree do it and just let it sit for a bit.

Great thanks for that, suits me better to do it now. Hopefully it'll turn out ok!

When the fondant has enough tylose added to it and has been allowed to sit for at least 10 minutes, it should make a popping sound when you pull it apart. The best fondant to use with tylose (for flowers, figures, etc..) is Wilton. It's not a good fondant for covering a cake because it tastes terrible, but it's great for making gumpaste.

Hey.
I like to add colour and tylose at the same time actually: since 1) tylose dries my fondant and colour moistens it and 2) I like adding shortening to help mix colour and I need to add shortening to mix my tylose! In my experience, though, you can colour anytime at all.

I generally use my mixture as soon as I tylose it, I never thought to let it settle, and it never cracks or anything. I'm sure you should let it sit (everything should sit!) but just letting you know it doesn't feel like it matters. ><
