AHHHGGG! I am making a cake for my grampa's 80th birthday this
weekend, everything was running smoothly until i was put the cake in the
oven, then i noticed my 1tsp measuring spoon on the counter instead of 1/2tsp, so it turns out i doubled the salt in my chocolate cake, its the bottom tier, and to me i can notice a difference in sweetness between that cake and the other tier( which i did not mess up lol). Think anyone will notice but me? im hoping maybe bc i know it happened its more obvious to me, its going to have whipped dark choc ganache inside and be covered in dark choc ganache. i cant even rebake another one till tomorrow since i ran out of sugar (how did i let that happen when i bake all the time? lol) Thanks in advance for ur advise!

My first thought after reading your post was that it won't matter much as the sugar content in your cake plus the frosting you will be putting on it will be enough to offset the extra salt. And it being the bottom tier, hence the biggest, it should be ok.

I think if you don't say anything to the people eating your cake, they won't notice it. It is funny how people will attempt to look for faults only when you bring attention to it.

Exactly as the above poster. If you had switched sugar and salt quantities, I'm sure everyone would notice, but an extra 1/2 tsp? Nah.

Salt intensifies chocolate's flavor. Trust me, no one will notice!

I have another one to do for my Dad next weekend, he's gonna be 60 so another big one to do. I love to do the family birthday cakes, such a good opportunity to practise, and they love it!
