I made an impulse purchase at TJ Maxx today, and am hoping that someone has an idea how it can be used. (It was only $3, so it's no great loss if I can't use it.)

Here's a link, so you can see what it looks like, since I can't get the image to upload in my post:
https://www.oetker-shop.de/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/275x275/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/3/130401_Krea_Herzbackrahmen1_4.jpg

It is an metal frame (no bottom, about two inches high), which can be adjusted from 12-26 cm, and comes with a silicone baking mat. The packaging is entirely in German, and the instructions sheet (if there was one) is missing anyway.

So...Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I just put the frame on the silicone mat on a baking sheet and fill with batter? Does it actually not leak if you do that? Do I need to grease the frame? How about the mat?

Thanks in advance!

i found this article about cake rings: http://stickofachef.wordpress.com/2008/04/26/the-versatility-of-cake-rings/
there's a lot of articles out there about them (search "how to use cake rings"); i, however, have never used them. from what i understand just make sure you have a super flat cookie sheet to set the ring on and grease the ring just like a cake pan. let us know how it works for you!

also, i've read that a lot of people use them (lined with acetate) to assemble torts and layered desserts, rather than to bake with. just an idea =D

ive got one that ive used a lot and i place the frame onto a piece of foil and then fold the foil up onto the exterior sides (about 1/2 way up).
It has never leaked icon_smile.gif
