I am looking for help with writing up Cake Donations for school, church, sporting events and charity events. Does anyone have an example of the wording I should use?
Thanks so much in advance for your help!
Carrie
I have another question to add to this: When filing taxes, do you count the retail cost of the cake, or just the cost of the ingredients as the donation?
It's a question that has recently come up.
I give them an invoice showing the cost of the cake and write charitable contribution where the discount line is and show the same amount as a negative.
As far as taxes go, I put it under advertising expenses.
You can only claim the actual cost, just as if you gave cash. Otherwise it would be too easy to inflate charitable contributions.
You will need their tax id number if you are going to claim the donation on your taxes. I was secretary for a volunteer organization and we would put this number in the thank you note we'd send.
