Well, let's see here.....My DH's b-day is Dec. 12th, my DS's b-day is Dec. 13th, and mine is Dec. 16th. Since this will be my DS's 1st b-day, only he is getting a cake and I'll be making that. Before my DS was born, my DH and I just agreed that we don't need that much cake so we had Cinnabon's for our birthday "cakes" and just stuck a candle in the middle of it and the extra frosting and sang each other "Happy Birthday".

I made my own last year and as long as I'm able, I think I will continue to make them in the future. I made my own Mother's Day cake this past May. I think its fun and also a great time to practice any techniques. Its not as stressful as making a cake for someone else! I especially like making my own cakes because I love how they taste! I say go for it and make your own cake!

A couple of years ago for my 50th.. I decided to have a ladies brunch for my family and good friends to celebrate. Everyone was so supportive and excited to help me acknowledge this milestone in my life. Almost everyone who called to respond had one question..........

"Are you making the cake" ?????? icon_confused.gificon_surprised.gificon_rolleyes.gif

SO.... I guess I make my own !

I made my own cake this year. I took it to work with me and it was like having a Birthday party all day long. Everyone loved it and I also got some orders for cakes and cookies.

You know, I haven't had a birthday cake since I was a kid. It is just another day to me. I am always so into the kids' and hubby's stuff though. Maybe the next one will be different. I get so busy making everyone else's cake that I don't think about my own.

I have a birthday in a few weeks too and I am going to make my own cake! I decided that after not really having one for a few years. I always make a big deal out of everyones birthday and then nothing happens for me. So this year I make a big deal out of me! haha well not quite. I won't have a party or anything but I am making a cake.

I always make cakes for all my family but no one ever makes me one so this year I have rebelled and said if I don't get a cake for my birthday in January no one else is getting a cake next year (as if I would). I don't care if they buy a cake from the supermarket or someone makes a cake (even undecorated) as long as they show me a bit of thought by getting me a cake

I bake and frost my own cake. I leave the decorating to my daughter. I always have bags of colored icing on hand with tips. She goes to town. I'd like to share a funny story: she is dyslexic, when I turned 40 (she was 12), she wanted to make an "over the hill" cake. She drew a hill and drew an arrow from right to left and wrote "over the hill". I wished I had taken a picture of it. It cracked me up!

Nana made my cake this year for my 40th birthday. That's the first cake i've gotten in a few years. I make everyone else's. My son helps decorate Dad's and Poppop's cakes.

I second that MissBaritone! I haven't seen a birthday cake in seven years, that's seven wishes that I've missed out on! I'd take a cupcake with one candle. Don't get me wrong I get all sorts of great presents but secretly I'd be happier with a cake and card.

I will be making my own cake this year(October). If I wait for dh to get one, I'd starve icon_sad.gif .
It doesn't matter as much to me anymore but my dd's(5 and icon_cool.gif expect it. I remember the first year after my mom died when I turned 22-no special supper made for me and even worse-NO CAKE!!!!!!!! I cried for days because I didn't get a cake. I think birthday cakes mean so much to us because our mother's always had a cake for us when we were little. I don't remember any of my presents but I do remember the cakes.

I know what you mean! I didn't get a thing for my 30th birthday which is probably why I got a big surprise party for my 40th! I told everyone that I didn't want a big party for my 30th so I got nothing! Not a cake, not a card, nothing! They said - "You told us you didn't want a big to do for your birthday". To me a cake and a card isn't a big to do!

I refuse to make my own cake. However, I have found I don't really like store cakes now that I know what a good cake really is. So I have my husband buy me an ice cream cake at Baskin Robbins. I love their ice cream cakes because the bottom layer is real cake, and the top layer is ice cream. It is SOOOOOOOOO good. And not something I would ever make! Besides, he doesn't have to be creative, just have the cash!

i went into the kitchen to get a drink andi found huy in there decorating a cake for me!! i didnt let him know i was there but i stood quietly in the doorway watching him smush shreeded coconut (my favorite) into the sides of the cake. picture this he would fill his hands with coconut and then press his hands in to the sides of the cake. it was so sweet but also so funny! he was pushing so hard cause the coconut kept falling off! then he used writing gels for the store cake make i think, to write (in black mind you) happy birthday mama! it was the best. now every year he makes my cake and i never have to remind him!!

My DH said that he wasn't going to have me do my own cake! So he and my girlfriend went to her house and he made everything himself with her supervision! I did pick chocolate cake of all things for his first cake! icon_surprised.gif LOL You know how difficult it is not to get chocolate crumbs in your icing!! icon_eek.gif He did such a good job! He truly is soooooooo good to me and the kids!! Gotta Love Him!! icon_wink.gif Here he is in action!
I know that we aren't supposed to use pics with faces in them but I had to brag on my Hubby!

I don't get cakes.... I don't get birthday cards or gifts, anniversary cards or gifts, or Christmas cards or gifts. I guess I'm going have to sit down and have a nice long talk with the family! Oh, I do get Mother's Day gifts and cards, but not form the DH. And there is nothing more precious than the gifts made by my children just for me!
