Royal Icing As Gum Paste Glue?

I'm looking for a very strong edible glue to attach arms, legs, and other pieces for my gum paste figures. I think that royal icing would work very well since it dries rock hard, but I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this & does it work well?
Thanks
I took a class on 'basic gumpaste flowers' and in the class, the instructor explained the process of 'gluing' gumpaste and fondant:
pieces that are already dried and are going to be attached to a piece that is also dry, requires a stiff royal icing.
If either piece is not dry yet, a tylose glue will work, ie.. attaching a piece of fresh fondant/gumpaste to a piece that has already dried!
so far, that has worked for me without any problems!!
I don´t use royal as a glue when making figures. I find that I can glue dry to dry using a thick gum glue {tylose and water}. For heavy items, I prop the items together and allow to dry. Knock on wood, no problems so far.
