I am an amateur baker and mostly do cakes, but my son's preschool is having a bake sale so I thought I would make rainbow cupcakes with swirled buttercream on top. However each cupcake needs to be individually wrapped...and they are only selling them for $1 each, so I don't want to go crazy with pricey individual boxes. Any inexpensive and easy ideas that won't mess up the cupcake?

Thanks!

I like to use the wilton treat bags (i think at my local walmart its like $2 or $2 for 20 bags) They're gusseted so the cupcake sits in the bottom just fine. If you're worried about it falling over though you can cut an index card in 1/2 or 1/3rds and place in the bottom then put your cupcake on top. Use the twist tie that comes with the treat bags and you're good to go.

I haven't tried it myself yet, so I can't give you any details on size, etc., but I've seen people mention that they use clear plastic cups (with lids). Just invert them so the cupcake is sitting on the lid. Good luck!

Hi!
I live in Guatemala and recently discovered this clear Cups with lid that costs less than $0.20 and the cupcakes fit perfectly, Its almost sure that you can find them in the States. icon_biggrin.gif

I faced that "individual wrapping" problem before and have used clear treat bags but the Buttercream got all "smushy" in the sides that touched the bag

good luck and sorry for my bad english icon_redface.gif

a 9 oz plastic cup works great. You can put the cupcake on the lid, then snap the cup on upside down.

Your English is great!

Those clear cups spefically for cupcakes are very expensive in Australia. I do like the idea of the gusseted bags and clear cups. Maybe use a crusting BC though!

If you don't want to go with the individual box, you could use the plastic cup. I believe 9oz. is one that has worked well in the past. place the cupcake on the lid and use the cup as a dome. Just make sure the lid is secure. I have seen a few "abrasive" buyers grab the cup too hard and pop the bottom right off...cupcake with it of course...but this is RARE. They work very well. I also like to use lidded sundae cups. I like the shape!

I like that idea Leily; I have thought of the bags before but never thought of the card idea. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions. I went out to look for solutions to wrap the cupcakes. A 9 oz cup would be great, but at 3 different places I couldn't find any with lids. Bought candy treat bags that have gusseted sides, but not bottom. I couldn't find any with a flat bottom. I bought some index cards and I will hope that putting a card in the bottom will help it all stand up and not get smushed. I will be using a crusting BC recipe, so I guess if I let them crust up a little before putting them in the bags that would be good.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I love coming here for tips and advise! icon_smile.gif

Sam's Club has the cups and the lids... sold separately. Also, they are in restaurant supply stores.

I love this idea! (cup with lid.) I've used bags before...too messy, and boxes...too expensive. What an awesome tip! I love cakecentral!
