Question , I'm working more with fondant lately and would like to know if people mostly make their own fondant or purchase it?? I've made the marshmallow recipe several times, sometimes it seems ok and other times I dont get it right! Any suggestions??

I am just a hobby baker, making cakes just for family. When I started out a few years ago, I made marshmallow fondant. Now I use purchased fondant most of the time. Sometimes I will make the MMF, but only if I don't have an opportunity to buy some. Also, the pre made stuff generally is easier to work with for me, resulting in less stress and saves me time.

I buy it. I do not like the look of Marshmallow fondant. I think the buttercream flavor SatinIce is yummy and SI has always worked well for me.

I think a lot of people make their own fondant all the time...I make mine sometimes, but most times it is easier to buy. Of course it is more expensive too buy. But if money isn't an issue buy..A lot of people are concerned about taste also... But then, a lot of people don't even eat the stuff...

I was thinking the exact same thing. Fondant is soooo expensive here, and satin ice is the most expensive and not as easily to get around here, I'm in Canada.

I buy mine also.Dawn foods puts out a delicious one called Deccorice. It is essentially white fondant but it smells and tastes like cotton candy...and because I buy wholesale I get it for $22.00 a 10lb bucket. So for that price..I'll buy it!! It is nice to work with also.

I make mine, have not bought ANY since i learned how to make it. I use the recipe on cakecentral and only use shortenning to cover my hands before i knead it. Super easy and taste GREAT. It comes out perfect every time no problem with breaking, dryness, Love it! I can't eat store bought so i can't expect my customers to!

do both! if you need dark, rich colors, i suggest you buy those (black, red, green, etc). but the regular stuff that you need a lot of (ivory), i like to make. if you got a coupon or find a good deal, buy.

I make all of mine except for dark colors like red/black/navy/grape...those I buy. I've made MMF for about 2 years now and have it down to a science. Never have any problems now. I couldn't afford to buy it all the time, it's just too expensive.

I always make my own. The only decent tasting premade I've tasted is Satin Ice. It's expensive and I try to keep cost down. I love Rhonda's MMF from here on CC. I use it every time and it's perfect every time.

I always make MFF, easy and cheap, and easy to work with. With the amount I use, I can't justify buying it. MFF takes color very well too.

I usually buy the dark colors and make Michele Foster's for everything else. Her fondant has the best taste and I find most people really like it.

I make the MMF and use it mostly for smaller cakes. I buy it if I have to cover large cakes. I want to try making it but I don't have a dough hook for my KA yet. icon_sad.gif
