I am a weekend baker. I don't make a whole lot of cakes, but find that I am having trouble with transporting them. It seems to be the height involved. If I use a cake "carrier" or cake box, sometimes the cake is to tall to close the box top or use the carrier. I thought of using just plastic wrap, but that makes me worry that the top decorations with get damaged.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Could you tape the box? It would keep the bottom part of the cake safe and since it would be taped it wouldn't dig into the top part of the cake.
I usually use regular cake boxes and tape the lid at an angle so it doesn't close down on the cake. The I use either a piece from another box or plastic wrap to cover the opening. Nothing touches the cake and it keeps it completely covered and protected during transport.

I do the same thing. For tall stacked cakes, I buy shipping boxes from Meijers, Walmart, etc. I then cut the sides so I can slip the cake in and tape the sides closed. I measure the cake height so I get a box where I can close the lid.
