So, I've been contact by food network for season 8 challenges, sent them my paperwork, cake pics and audition tape. So far, so good.

I'd like to do a trial cake- 3ft tall in 8 hours, but I can't decide on a theme/idea. Would my fellow CC'ers mind planting a few seeds in my brain? (well, my virtual brain, anyhow!)

Thanks in advance!

How exciting!! I would definitely do something you are not really comfortable doing!! Moving parts etc! They always seem to throw a curve in there. And of course clean lines!! lol do a huge wedding cake with something you have never done before.

I thought about a wedding cake, but they usually go with more of a birthday/event theme.... I just need a few themes/ideas to get me started. It doesn' even have to be an idea for the cake, just something to get me started..... I know one show was Dr Suess.....but obviously I wouldn't want to do that....anyone....bueller, bueller.......bueller...

Oh how exciting! Wow!

I would just start throwing stuff together you've never done before. Make it spin, make it light up...sculpt something 3D...make gumpaste pieces...do something in chocolate....do something in pulled sugar....

Maybe you could do a circus theme or carnival theme...that would be easy to incorporate spinning, lighting up, sculpted, gumpaste, chocolate, and pulled sugar.....

I agree with Kitagrl! And be able to sculpt facial features if you need to. I see a lot of the competitors that really struggle with that! Do you know when the competition will be?

How about a travel theme? Or fourth of July? Winter wonderland? Harry Potter? Dragon baby shower? Oops, that last one is the cake I have to do next weekend! icon_smile.gif

I'd do a cake based on a previous FN theme.
congrats and good luck.
will be great to see a new face on there, rather than the same people over and over.

Nascar: working lights, swinging checkered flag, smoke from burning rubber (tires) or from exhaust pipe.
superbowl
Alice in wonderland
superhero

yes, should definately practice your facial carving/painting.

GOOD LUCK, hope you get chosen to compete. That is an awsome acknowlegement of your work.

That's so awesome Jill! Good luck with it! I would say choose one of the new movies - maybe Tangled. They seem to do a lot of Disney movies. You'll have to let us know if you get to be on tv!

Movie hits are something to consider "Despicable Me", Johnny Depp's Alice in Wonderland an "Inception" cake could be pretty trippy talk about imagination!

One of the gallery pictures inspired this idea....How about a garden gnome theme with little houses lit from inside, lots of flowers, bugs, trees/bark faces, animals...it's endless. Good luck.

First of all..Congratulations! So awesome to even be considered....Here's my thoughts...structure...try a piece that you have to go out of your comfort zone with structure...are you comfortable with all the building aspects..as well as moving parts... How about a helicopter... with moving blades at the top and lights?.... saw one on the internet (very cool idea...just needed fine tuning) Best of luck to you...
