No. I don't consider cakes "seasonal". People like white cake just as much in the winter as they do in the summer. They like chocolate fudge or red raspberry filling just as much in the winter as they do in the summer.
Wow...summer is such an easier time to know these things. LOL. However during the winter I think of comfort. I don't think all cupcakes have to be filled, but flavor wise when I think of January (winter) leading up to Valentines. Red Velvet, White Chocolate, Chocolate Fudge, Spice or Pumpkin (more of a Christmas and before but I love it all winter). Caramel, candied nuts. Apples are also still pretty popular this time of year.
I am not sure if any of this helps, but I think in the winter the big thing is decorations...snow flakes, snowmen, blues and those kinds of things.

I have to agree indydebi to an extent on that one, the majority of my customers will order the same cake all year round. But id say at least 10% of them are seasonal, during the summer ordering more fruit fillings, rather than chocolate.
Ok, thanks for the input. I'm saving red velvet for February (Valentine's Red). I was just drawing a blank for January. I can think of seasonal decorations, but was just drawing a blank on flavors.
Oh i did a Peppermint Buttercream on Chocolate cupcakes for Christmas along with my famouse Pumpkin ones and they turned out GREAT. The only thing was I crushed candy canes on the top and within a day or two they had start to melt and get soggy.
I mixed mini chocolate chips in my peppermint buttercream for the filling of a chocolate mint cake, it was my DH's favorite cake EVER!
