Michael's is discontinuing the Cricut Cake- and the machine (regular size) is on clearance for 29.99- I missed the last one in my area by one day!! icon_mad.gif But if you live near a michael's, call them up and call the other ones in your area and see if you can nab one! Also, their cartridges are on sale for 9.99 I got the birthday cake one, along with others that were made for the expression, but still work in the cake. Good luck!

Is it better and good? or do you use the regular expression cutter or the "cake" cutter is best to buy for cakes

I just bought myself the cricut machine. I saw cartridges at Michaels, but I asked a sale person about them. They were $9.99, but she told me they were for crafting, not cakes or dough. Is she right? Are there 2 different types, one for cakes and one for crafts? I'm confused.

Cartridges are interchangeable between machines. I have both the Cricut Cake & the "crafting" one and use the same cartridges in both. $9.99? Gosh....wish I could get in on that deal!

Thanks Lilscakes. Looks like I'll be going to Michaels tomorrow. If they are gone, they're going to get an earfull since the saleswoman told me I can't use them in my cake cricut machine. You don't have a Michaels by you?

Yes, we have a Michaels, but we don't get the deal in Canada that you have in the US.....probably going to check regardless, but I know they won't have them on at that price. Hope you get a bunch icon_biggrin.gif

I was excited to see that they had some of the cartridges for $9.99 and rushed over there 45 minutes after they opened and they were "sold out". So upset!

I did a little research! I found this site to be helpful.

Im thinking maybe if I buy the cake, i can just by a basic blade & switch them as the cake blade is not made for paper & the basic blade is not made for cake but is still used for cakes by some!

If any one finds any more info, please let me know!

THanks

it wasn't in the weekly ad, the manager of the store told me. he said they were discontinuing it (in our area at least) because it was not a great seller. he also said it was a heavily returned item. after reading some of the posts, i went in to this purchase expecting a learning curve and that i would not master it overnight. had i not had known this, i believe i may have been one of those people returning it after a few days. it's a very tricky machine, but once you get the hang of it - it's awesome!!!! I ended up getting mine last weekend from ac moore using my joanne's ad as a price match for 199. Still a good deal.

Thank you for the link. The video's there are very helpful. I'm still not clear on whether or not there are separate cartridges for crafts or cake decorating. I bought the cricut cake at Joann's for $199.00.

You might try "amazon.com" to get a Cricut Cake. I got a Martha Stewart (thanks to a CCer's info here) a couple months ago on the lighting deal for $199. However, I believe that amazon has the red Cricut Cut for $199 as a regular price. You might want to check it out. HTH

I bought the Cricut Cake Expression on E-bay last week. It's new in the box and came with everything needed to get started. I won it for $152.50; I watched them for about a week and had set my personal limit at $150.00. The average auction price for these machines would be from around $170 to over $200.00. I felt good about my win. I think all Cricut cartridges (except the imagine) will fit the cricut cake.

Does anyone know if Michael's is still selling their cartridges for $9.99?

Here's my opinion about Michael's and Cricut; they discontinued the Cricut Name and are putting Martha Stewart's name on them because they can make more money with her name on the product. What I am wondering though is if the cartridges will be interchangeable.
