I bought a big bottle of CK vanilla flavoring from a cake shop and it doesn't smell like vanilla at all and when I tasted it it taste horrible like straight alcohol. This is the first time I bought CK vanilla and I didn't know if this is how the product is or is there something wrong with it.
I'm planning on returning it today, but just wanted to get your thoughts.
THX!!
i had a bottle of ck vanilla, and i threw it away. i found it to be awful. everything i made with it did not taste good.

I use the ck vanilla all the time. What you need to realize is that it is not like the vanilla extract that you would buy in the grocery store. It is a professional grade vanilla, so the smell and flavor will be stronger. You use less of the ck than you would the grocery store brand. HTH.
I did take it back to the store and they told me it was fine, that is how CK is. I threw away, along with the two batches or buttercream I had made with it.
I tend to be a little heavy handed with the vanilla, so I don't think I could get used to using less
Thanks for your answers!!
I make my own vanilla too...however, if the OP doesn't like CK vanilla she probably wont like homemade either.
I LOVE my vanilla. I've given it to picky friends, one who makes her own coffee syrup, and they love it, too! It's a LOT better and a LOT cheaper. It just takes a while to steep. I leave mine a minimum of 6 months and use at least 35% beans. I think I have about a gallon of it now! LOL!
CK is the only vanilla I ever use. Even though it may not taste or smell like other vanillas it works just fine and I like it.
I have two containers going right now, one is "finished" and one is about 5 weeks. I love getting cute antique decorative glass jars and decanting some for friends for special occasions.
