Hi everyone,

I'd appreciate if you'd give me some advise. What is the basic rule on cake board? How often every how many inches?) is it recommended to insert a cake board while stacking layers of cakes? From my experience, I'm thinking cake layers stacked up to 7" would be able to hold without compromising the shape... A I right?? But when I watch cake pros making such a beautiful wedding cake or some kind of extreme cakes, I don' see them inserting cake board so often (or maybe they just don't show that part on TV?) I sure don't see them cutting cake boards with cake while they're curving the cake into some particular shape... Why? Do they use some kind of different technique??

I use a board every 4" with supports inside the cake.

I wont do a 7" without a board and supports, dont want a cake collapsing, just to save one board but thats just my opinion.

the standard is a cake board with dowels underneath every 4" of veritical cake. i've gone 6" before and that was too much weight (and i've tried it with a light and heavy cake before)
