Hi Everyone,

I am going to make a cake for my aunt who just had her last chemo treatment on Tuesday for Breast Cancer. I want to do a pink fondant cake and then I want to write Strength, Hope and Faith on each side of the cake, but do not know how. Can someone please help me with this? I wanted to do it like the picture in the link below, but don't know how I would put the words on them small boards either.

It looks to me like it was written in RI or buttercream. You can use either one to write on your fondant.

I am sorry, but what is RI? Also, have you ever used the edible markers from the craft stores?

There are a couple of ways to write on fondant, you could dip a paint brush in gel food colour thined out with a bit of vodka and paint on the cake. Or you could buy some edible ink markers in various colours and use them just like a regular pencil. Or you could even get gumpaste letter cutters and stick the letters on to your cake. icon_biggrin.gif

@sandy, I just realized RI is royal icing. Thank you.
@cakeastic, thank you. I think I want to try the edible markers. Thank you icon_smile.gif

in this case its definatly piped on - with buttercream or royal icing - you can also use chocolate or thinned down fondant (if you hover over an acronym with dots under it like ri a pop up box appears telling you what it is). the letters on the board look to be done the same way.
if your piping isnt that great, you can transfer the script first. just print it out and use a clean knife, tool, whatever for cakes, to either poke holes through the print, or scrape over the letter so the indenations can then be piped over. you can also pipe ri onto something solid - put the print out upside down under a clear block, ri over the pattern on the block, let it dry and imprint the fondant, then pipe over the imprint.

but if you are happy for it not to be total pink cake box style, theres lots of ways to write of fondant - you can also do run outs with chocolate or ri, or a transfer with bc or chocolate. cutters work well too, or a string of fondant can be shaped to letters.
edible markers are good, just make sure you buy decent ones! read the reviews online first.
and for painting you can thin gel colours, or use petal or lustre dust with alcohol to make a paint.
xx

I love the meaning behind this cake and Congrats to your aunt!!! My mom is a 2 year breast cancer survivor and for her 2 yr anniversary I did a cake that said cancer sucks on top LOL! She loved it and in sure you're Aunt will love this one! I use buttercream to write on cakes. I find it easier to work with for writing than RI. Good luck and again yay for your aunt!!

I didn't view the linksorry, but I'm partial to old school piping over cookie-cutter designs.

There are so many different ways, I like to used RI or BC for piping. You can also use edible food markers or "paint" with food coloring... There are so many different options!! HTH
