My little cousin had a cake request for her birthday: Shrek!
How am I gonna do that? That was my immediate question.

Well I started with my standing bear pan and pound cake

Image

Then I tried to sculpt a little with my kitchen knife

Then I used ganache for the crumb coat

I decided to cover roughly with a green layer of fondant (MMF in this case) to use the technique I made on my fairy face (also posted that here in CC).
So I added all the convenient volumes with more mmf: nose, cheeks, chin and upper lips.

Image

Then, to prevent me from dirtying the final layer of fondant with chocolate I covered the rest of the cake with saram wrap.
And then I added the mmf layer.

I made the final touches trying to add some expression to the face. I used my pme tools to help me.

I made the eyes apart from the cake. I used white mmf and painted the iris with a thin brush.
Then added the eyelidswith green mmf. I had to make them twice!
So, finnaly, when I was happy with them I glued them with a little brush of water.
The eyebrows were also painted.

The ears were made with green mmf too, with a toothpick inside and were left to dry

The finished cake is posted on my photos.

I'd like to mention too, that this cake has been decorated a week before the party and I FROZE it!
I decorated the whole cake and wrapped carefully with saran wrap. I left the ears out to dry, but the rest was all frozen.
Then I took it out a day and a half before, put it inside a cardbox to absorve part of the air humidity and to make the thawing slow. I only took off the saran wrap when it was completely thawed.
It was PERFECT!!!
