I've been using the same cookie and icing recipes for years, but in recent batches the sugar glaze gets cloudy when it hardens on the cookie. So instead of a bold solid color I get a covering that looks almost paisley. Cool but not desired.

I spread the icing on parchment and let it dry, and it didn't turn cloudy. Any idea what causes it? What would react with the cookies? Any help is appreciated.

Check the cornstarch level in your powdered sugar. It can range and it won't show on parchment.

But if it's paisley-ish it might be a reaction with salt if you have salt in there.

What's the recipe?
