How do I place fabric ribbons on buttercream cakes , and how do I avoid ending up with a greasy ribbon?

Some people pre-grease their ribbon with shortening. If it's going to soak up the grease anyway, might as well ensure it's stained evenly.

I have heard that some ppl line the ribbon with wax paper; however, I have not used that techniques myself.
