I was wondering what type of icing I should use to create a snow effect on a christmas cake. Should I use buttercream or royal. not sure, my first time to try this. Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you put fondant in the microwave for a few seconds, it becomes soft and pliable and can be made to look like snow drifts falling over the sides of the cake. I'm not sure what your application is but this has worked for me.
Sorry, should have explained. I'm making a cake to look like Santa workshop and want to put snow on top of roof and make little snow drifts on the board. So now sure what icing would work best for that. thanks.
I would probably use royal icing for that and then add some sugar crystals or white disco dust for effect.
I think either will work. I used a thinned down buttercream for the snow effect in my Penguin cake in my gallery. Everyone loved it and I sprinkled some white edible glitter on top to give it that glistening look.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone for taking time to reply. That helps alot. I do have the edible glitter to sprinkle over it. And will try with the royal icing. Will be doing that tomorrow and take pics to post. Fingers crossed that it comes out good. I need it for Sunday.
Just tonight I made a cake topper and covered the cakeboard with fondant, swirled on RI with a spoon, sprinkled on disco dust and then topped with the figurines. Sweet!
