Baking A Cake On Tall Container...

Good morning everyone:
I have a little dilemma which I would appreciate your assistance with, and here it goes:
I have to bake a cake which is about 8 inches tall and I found the perfect container. The container is a coffee metal container about the same height. The question is, can I bake a cake in this container which is so perfect for my cake, or a my being a silly want to be baker? Please help everyone. thank you so much for you help.
Have a great day everyone.
I think baking in something so big you would run the risk of it not being cooked in the middle and burnt on the outside.
You need to think of support as well especially if you are going to tort and fill. I believe it would need support at every 4 inches.
I would recommend baking various 2 inch rounds. leveling them and fillling.

To get a tall look like the container, bake several layers of cake and stack them. It won't get done in the middle if you bake it all in one layer, plus if it did bake up, you risk it collapsing on itself for lack of support! So say you want a 6in diameter cake, about 6 in tall, bake about 4 layers of cake, (once filled it will more than likely give you more height, just depends on the thickness of each layer and amount of filling you use) Stack and fill the first two layers, then place in about 3 or 4 small dowel rods just to the height of the cake, wilton makes really good small rods and are available in any craft store...then place a board on top, and fill and stack your next two layers. If you feel its still not tall enough, do the doweling again before moving on to the next layers. I usually will not go over 3 layers of cake with out giving it some kind of support! Hope this helps and good luck on baking
Thank you so much guys. I will take your advise about baking several cakes instead. I would hate to have my cake colapse. Have fun during your holidays. Thank you again for your help.
I've had success baking in a coffee can, but the end result wasn't used for a tall cake--it was for a long cake on its side.
I don't see any advantages to baking in one tin if it will be cut into layers to add filling then stacked back together.
i have baked in coffee cans too just be careful not to overfill it. worked great for me
