Christmas Pound Cake request

Thread Starter
I have a request for pound cake for the last day before Christmas break. I wanted to make it from scratch. Any suggestions on a good pound cake recipe? Also, what type of icing/filling would go well with pound cake? I was trying to shoot for a holiday theme/taste.

Thanks for you suggestions.

I made some egg nog pound cake this week - it was delicious!!! I subbed egg nog for the liquid, and added a tsp of nutmeg and a couple of tsps of rum extract. I use a british style pound cake recipe and it was fabulous!

My recipe is:
3 C all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 C butter
3 C white sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground nutmeg
2 tsp rum extract
6 eggs
1 C egg nog

1. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.
2. Cream butter and sugar together
3. Blend in eggnog and extracts
4. Add eggs, one at a time, alternating with flour mixture. Beat well after each addition.
5. Pour batter into your prepared bundt pan.
6. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-70 minutes or until done.

Hope that helps!

Sounds wonderful! What type of icing did you use?
What was the original recipe?

I have to try this! Sounds yum.

No icing - I did it in a bundt and sprinkled it with powdered sugar and nutmeg! Its based off my regular pound recipe...just replaced the sour cream with the egg nog icon_smile.gif.

I have a great Whipping Cream Pound Cake recipe, super - super yummy. No icing or even PS needed to dress it up. A small dollop of WC is all it "needs". Hopefully it attaches icon_biggrin.gif

Have you ever frozen the pound cake?

Nope never frozen it before, so I really can't say how it would come out...most of my cakes don't last long enough for me to get it to the freezer! LOL.
