Hi--

I'm contemplating melting (to high temp) sugar or isomalt to pouring consistency but still clear, not amber (which I know happens with sugar if you cook it a long time). Then I want to pour it out as a slab and let it set/cool to be a clear(ish) "pane of glass" appearance. Then I would like to paint a design on all or part of the pane.

Should I use sugar or isomalt? Can it just be poured out on a flat non-stick surface (e.g., Silpat)? Can it be painted? If so, what kind of "paint"--gel food coloring thinned with vodka?

Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Airbrush and edible markers work. Sugar usually browns on yah so isomalt or venuance pearls would be better.

Silpat yes--and put a parchment under it to prevent it from sticking to the counter. But vinyl is also used so that wrinkles do not develop.

Be prepared to hit it with a blow torch to remove bubbles & stuff before painting.
