I'm contemplating melting (to high temp) sugar or isomalt to pouring consistency but still clear, not amber (which I know happens with sugar if you cook it a long time). Then I want to pour it out as a slab and let it set/cool to be a clear(ish) "pane of glass" appearance. Then I would like to paint a design on all or part of the pane.
Should I use sugar or isomalt? Can it just be poured out on a flat non-stick surface (e.g., Silpat)? Can it be painted? If so, what kind of "paint"--gel food coloring thinned with vodka?
