Florida Cottage Food Act Update - Page 12

Ok! That is great Barbara! Now...how do we go about making it official? Who have you called specifically? What is being required?

I'll be out of the country until the 15th and am hoping to get the ball rolling after that. Any advise from those who are working on it now?

jhay,
Linedancer provided a link to the final draft from the Food Dept Advisory board. at the bottom of page 11 on this forum. This tells you everything you need to know. Those are the specifics.

I will be getting a copy of the actual documents from the Food Safety department this week. If you or anyone would like a copy email me at krazyaboutcake@gmail.com The final information will be posted on the Food Safety website this week. I do not know exactly what day they will post it.

If you want to know who I talk to the Dept of Food Safety keeps me informed.

Barbara

This is an exciting new adventure for all of us! Thank you Barbara for making it happen and keeping us all informed. I can't wait to call my local county office tomorrow to find out what I need next since I already have my fictitious name already registered. Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know the restrictions in Miami Dade for the cottage act? Do we need a occupational license or a fictitious name? What do we need to do n sunbiz to get it registered?
I live in Monroe County and you must have your fictitious name registered and approved before you can apply for the occupational (required on their application). Because my area issues a Home Occupation Special Use Permit I was told that I would also be required to also apply, luckily it is a one time fee.

How did you find out the requirements for your county?

I just spoke to Mr. Daniel Hixson with the Department of Agriculture. He told me to feel free to mention his name and phone number in this forum. He said that if anyone had questions, they can to call him. He's the one who created the brochure that is in Google Documents.

850-245-5588

He is a SUPER nice man.

Just got off the phone with Mr. Hixson also, he is very very nice and full of information. I had asked him about county, state, city licensing and he said with in the next few days all the information will be sent to our local offices to update and inform them. So, let's cross our fingers that it all gets sorted out this week and we will all be Happy Lil Home Cakers! Woo Hoo! I'm so excited!

Just got off the phone with Osceola Cty Tag Office and they have not received a notice that the Food Cottage Act had been signed yet. They say they get their info late so he is working on finding out more information and will contact me tomorrow.

I also spoke to a Ron Webb from the Department of Agriculture/ consumer affairs too and he told me there is no special licensing, registrations, just make sure you label all of the ingrdients by weight and put made in "cottage food kitchen not subject to fla laws".
Very nice man to speak and said to call him back with any questions. Here's his number if anyone would like to speak to him 850-245-5520

Mr. Hixson said the same, but he also said to check with your county health department. There may be some county regulations,zoning,etc.. that you might be subject to.
