I'd like to venture outside of Michael's and JoAnn's, no offense to those stores icon_surprised.gif), but Im wondering where else I can buy supplies, like Satin Ice, Americolors, and all of the other stuff outside the world of Michaels? icon_surprised.gif)

Hi There!

I live in Auburn, right up the road from you icon_smile.gif

I really can't advise you as to where to purchase the actual decorating supplies, as I am just a hobby baker.

BUT as far as the baking supplies go, have you checked out Cash and Carry? You can save a ton of money at that store, if you are willing to buy in large quantities. I get my eggs, flour, butter, sleeve fillings, puddings, HR shortening, Bettercreme, as well as a multitude of other goodies we bakers need.

I go to the one in Federal Way....I am sure that they have locations in Tacoma as well. The prices are as good as Costco, but with NO membership fees.

HTH!

Yep, I bought 50 lbs of Sweetex for around $50.00 if I remember correctly....they also have my beloved Bettercreme. I'm just a hobby baker, but I have 2 chest freezers so it really saves money to buy in bulk. I get my 10x sugar, sleeve fillings, puddings, torani syrups, and a multitude of other goodies there. The first time I went in there, I felt like a kid in a candy store!

Even if you have to make the drive to this area, you'll save oodles of money in the long run....but I'll bet that even if your C&C doesn't stock Sweetex, that they can get it from their distributor for you.

Good luck and happy baking icon_smile.gif

ps...you are sooo fortunate to live on the coast icon_smile.gif
I love to go out there this time of year and go beach combing after a Pacific storm....you never know what you'll find..

They have 10x sugar too!! Geez, I am really out of the loop on that one and to know its right next to Costco and I go there all the time! If not, I do go up to your area a lot and to Portland a lot so I am sure I could get it.

I live in Long Beach, the storms down here are crazy sometimes but it does bring a lot up on the beach. I was born and raised here so I hardly ever go beach combing (its more of a tourist thing) but I really should. I love all the stuff people find.

Heyyyyy neighborssss!!! I live in Kent, WA icon_smile.gif and if you didn't know Jackie and Heath(CC founders) also leave in Kent----this is a small world huh?

If you want especial stuff try Home Cake Decorating in the Northgate mall area and also Dawns Candy and Cake in Kirkland WA. ---however, their stuff is not cheap is just that they have all the goodies that Michaels or Joannes does not carry. Plus, the owners are very friendly and give you personal customer service thumbs_up.gif

Thank you Diamonds-and-rust for the tip on the high ratio at Cash and Carry...can you tell what brand is it? I've been there several times and never seen it icon_confused.gif

Hi Neighbors!!

Rosie, my Cash and Carry carries Sweetex. Thanks for the info on the deco shops, I go up to Bellevue all the time so I'll have to check out the Kirkland store next time I'm up there....

Longbeach is one of my favorite places in the world...soooo much nicer than Ocean Shores....gotta LUV those little oysters, too (Quilicenes, I think?)....and those clams? I forgot the name of those (NOT the Geoduck) I love them too icon_smile.gif

Razor clams - Just went digging for them night before last. It was a gorgeous clear night and the stars were shining bright and all you could see up and down the beach were reflections of hundreds of lanterns on the beach.

Congratulations on your business venture! Can you please post your website? Or if CC has a problem with that can you PM it to me? I'd much rather support a small locally-owned business than a huge corporation on the other side of the country. Where is McKenna? It rings a bell but I can't quite place it...
thank you!

Smallfrye,
Glad to hear your coming to clamdig. The more the merrier! Where is McKenna WA? I would love to get a good relationship going with someone semi local for my orders. Obviously, I have no supply stores near me so I have to order or stock up when I am in the area. I do call a supply store in Portland and when they ups it to me its here the next day which is nice. I called them last week and they didnt have some basic things (black food coloring & they had never heard of an extruder) which was really annoying so I had to pay a ton for faster shipping thru Global Sugar Art. Anyway, just wondering how far you are away and if you are going to be doing shipping at all and do you have a website?

Ahhh glad to hear from you ladies in the St of WA icon_smile.gif and yes please pm me your website or the address of your business. Those 2 places I mentioned are the only ones where I buy my especial stuff. Michaels and Joannes only carry Wilton and I don't really like Wilton icon_sad.gif

Diamonds, what is the brand of the high ratio you found at Cash & Carry?

I just looked up McKenna, WA and it's about 60miles of me going south towards Olympia. I'd say maybe about 1hr drive. Please let me know when you open up your shop to come and see you icon_smile.gif

Hi Rosie!

Nope, no C&C in Auburn, they are in Federal Way...in the strip mall to the north of WalMart....on Pac Hwy, just north of where hwy 18 ends. You may have to ask a few people to help you find it...first time I went in and I aske(d the kid if they had hi-ratio, he just kinda looked at me like I had a 3rd eyeball growing out of my forehead, and said no....well I knew for a fact that they did indeed carry HR because I had tt the mgr before going there....so I just asked him where the shortening was, and lo and behold, there it was icon_smile.gif

I went back and informed him that yes indeedy they did carry in case another baker was wandering around looking for it.

They have so much good stuff, be sure to bring lots of money! But you really do save $$$$ in the long run....like I tell my hubby, ya gotta SPEND money to SAVE money! (He fails to see the logic....hahaha!)

Lmk what you pick up tonight ok? I'm curious to see what goodies you come up with. Hmmmmm, now I have a craving to go, I LUV that place

Ahhhh thank you Cathy!! I will certainly look myself when I go.
And you're gonna laugh at this but the very first time I went to Cash & Carry I went to the bank before and got cash since I assumed it was a cash basis store only, LOL icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
But yeah I think I know where is at since I've been to that Wal Mart before.

And noooo, man do not understand the concept of 'buy more to save' only women know how that works icon_biggrin.gif

I probably not go tonight since they close early and I'm working a little late, but for sure I will over the weekend. I need to replehish my Bettercreme supply icon_wink.gif
Thank you Cathy!!

OH so glad to see this post!! I live in CA but Puyallup is home and can't find my stuff when I go home and inevitably have to make a cake. icon_smile.gif So I either have to bring with me or ship ahead. McKenna is right down the road. Would make things so much easier. Please PM me and let me know where you are.

Sounds like fun thumbs_up.gif
LMK dates. accomodations, cost, etc, k?
I don't drive but would be more than willing to contribute $$ for gas. mileage, wear and tear, etc.

Hopefully it will be during the summer, so we could do some "touristy" things like taking the ski lift up Grouse Mountain, that "Island" thing (sorry, I forgot the name of it!), Gastown, etc....what fun! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
