Duff Goldman cake graffiti spray in silver is HORRIBLE. - Page 2

Not sure how else to describe it except.... Product failure! I returned two cans to Michael's and they looked at me like I was nuts! I told them I can sorry for a min of 15 seconds and they clogged. I took tops odd and boiled them... And then tried again... No luck! There is no way this product was tested for effectiveness prior to putting on store shelves.

I did get replacement cans, lost my receipt and am now stuck with cans that intermittently work. I think Michael's should issue refunds on any unused cans...regardless of receipt or not, since they are the only carriers of this product line.

I recently just purchased the cake graffiti gold and silver spray. I texted it on one of my cupcakes and for some reason it has a horrible taste to it. A big chemical taste to it.. I will never buy it again!!!!

I'm confused. You "texted" it on a cupcake? What does that mean?

I'm guessing "tested". "x" isn't far from "s" on the keyboard.

Yes I meant to say tested not texted. I returned the cans and bought the airbrush. We will see how that works out. . sorry for the confusion

I am so glad you said this! I have some Dallas Cowboy cupcakes to make next month and I was gonna use grey frosting and spray his silver over it for sheen. Now I guess I'll take the drive to the good cake store and get a can of PME silver. I have a can of their gold and it works well.

I gave a friend of mine a bottle of Duff's silver spray and she also ran into the same problem. She'll be glad to see that it wasn't her. Hope they change their minds and pull it rather than have defective products ruin their reputation... but maybe it is already too late for that?

I just used some on gumpaste/fondant tools I made for a cake and the spray worked fine. Can't say about the taste because the tools were just for decoration. Maybe my store has the fixed batch?

i have purchased several cans of the silver spray and I love it! I used it for two tiaras for my nieces birthday and they looked great. If you want a deep silver, you have to use a lot. On my other cakes I just sprayed for a shimmer. I am going to purchased lots of cans before and if they get pulled from the shelf.

I love Duff and also buy many of his products but haven't tried the Grafitti Silver. I have tried using silver in my airbrush and had the same problems - not so much the clogging but spitting - causing spots on my football helmet. Seems that with silver you need to keep agitating the mixture during spraying - so the next time I'm going to try and mix alcohol with silver liquid half and half and will keep my finger or saran wrap over the opening while shaking the airbrush to keep it mixed.

I've used the silver spray twice. Both on my beer bucket cakes. The first time it covered nicely on my ganache, but I didn't have the borders on so I had to buy another can. It didn't look as good, but i thought it was just me. I bought one can for the 2nd cake thinking it would easily be enough for a 8in round 4-5 inches high. I ran out so the bottom barely has very little color.
Glad to see it is not something I'm doing wrong on my part.

So far I've been disappointed in every Duff product I've tried so i don't buy them any more.

I love his show, "Ace Of Cakes" that used to be on and he was the one who inspired me to do cakes! I think his work is amazing but I wish his products were better.
